Diet

Black bears are omnivorous. However, a large part of their diet consists of vegitation, including twigs, leaves, nuts, roots, and fruit. Like other bears, black bears eat honey, honeycombs, and bees. Their diet also includes grubs, beetles, ants, crickets, fish, and small mammals.

Offspring

Black bears will typically have 1 to 4 cubs at a time after a gestation period of 7-9 months. At birth the cubs are extremely vulnerable, being hairless, unable to walk, and blind. At 6 weeks the cub begins to walk and the mother will spend the next year or more showing the youngster what to eat, how to hunt, and how to build a den.

Relationship with Humans

Urban sprawl has caused the black bear to wander into suburban areas in some cities.
